The IM-Adapted project

A feasibility study evaluating a mental health programme for young Muslim women

STUDY BACKGROUND

Mental health challenges are a significant concern across diverse communities, and young Muslim women can face unique stressors that affect their well-being. The Inspirited Minds Adapted Intervention (IM-Adapted) study recognises the importance of addressing these concerns in a culturally sensitive and empowering manner.

This feasibility study takes a groundbreaking approach by investigating a faith-based, culturally adapted intervention specifically designed to support the mental health and overall well-being of young Muslim women. Current research underscores the potential positive role faith can play in mental health care and the need to tailor interventions to specific cultural and religious backgrounds for greater effectiveness.

THE INSPIRITED MINDS ADAPTED INTERVENTION

Our study aims to explore how integrating Islamic principles and practices into a supportive mental health intervention can benefit young Muslim women. We understand that the intersection of faith, culture, and gender plays a crucial role in shaping individual experiences of mental health.

  • Assess the feasibility – Determine the practicality of implementing and evaluating this type of intervention.

  • Understand acceptability -Assess receptivity of mental health care in young Muslim women.

  • Gather insights – Collect data to improve the intervention’s effectiveness.

STUDY VALUES

To pioneer the development of culturally sensitive, faith-based mental health interventions for young Muslim women, and assess the potential benefits of this approach.

We believe mental health and well-being are deeply intertwined with cultural and spiritual identity. Our intervention respects the role of Islamic faith in fostering resilience and providing support for young Muslim women.

We are committed to collaborating with young Muslim women to understand their specific needs and tailor our intervention accordingly. We pledge to conduct research with the highest standards of ethical practice and respect for participants’ privacy and well-being.

  • To test the feasibility of implementing a faith-based, culturally adapted intervention for young Muslim women.
  • To assess how participants perceive and experience this intervention.
  • To gather initial evidence about the potential benefits of this approach on mental health and well-being.
  • To use our findings to inform the development of future, larger-scale interventions.

Our research is grounded in principles of empowerment, cultural sensitivity, and respect. We prioritize collaboration and community engagement to ensure our work directly benefits the young Muslim women we seek to serve.
